Course Information: Diploma in Legal Studies
Central Birmingham College deliver a number of law programmes aimed at existing law students (Undergraduates tutorial seminars) and for students wishing to undertake a course of legal study at University Degree level. With this in mind, our existing Diploma in Legal studies and Access to Law Programme, is specifically designed to meet the needs of the prospective Lawyer.
Subject on offer varies but principle core modules are compulsory which includes the English Legal System, Contract, Administrative Law and Tort. Each Law student as a matter of course, are assigned a personal law tutor whose prime responsibility is to further develop and equip that student with the necessary analytical skills required to succeed at higher academic legal education.
The classes are small, with an international mixture of students. Method of study is by coursework assignment, presentation and exams. There is also a chance for the prospective Lawyer to team up with a member of class and enter in our yearly mooting competition, which carries a cash prize. This requires the student(s) to undertake a given case scenario and to present legal arguments as if in a court of law. We also make a number of visits to legal places of interests such as the Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand, London and other lower courts etc. This we hope will familiarise our law students with the working of the English Legal System.

After completion of the Access to Law/ Diploma in Legal Studies Course, the student may then undertake a University Degree Programme at any one of a number of Universities within the United Kingdom.
