School of Legal Education/Studies

Welcome to Central Birmingham College School of Legal Education/Studies. The School has been developed with the principal aim of expanding legal education for all students, whether international or home based UK or EU students.

Our legal programmes are diverse and intense in that topics undertaken are taught by highly experienced and committed law lecturers.

Further, the School of Legal Education/Studies, has additionally developed a Law tutorial programme, aimed principally at students currently undertaking law related topics at undergraduate level as a means of support. Seminars are usually undertaken over a 4 week period. (see our law tutorial page for further details of seminar dates and time).

These programmes has been developed for those who have an interest in legal studies and wish to develop their general knowledge of the basic concepts of Law. The programme is designed for those students wishing to undertake a future law degree course, or have a general interest in law.

Access to Law:

Students enrolled onto this programme study the basics such as introduction to the law of Contract, Tort, English Legal System and Constitutional & Administrative Law. Additional subjects undertaken are English and Maths. Upon completion, students undertaking this module, will be eligible for higher education at a recognized UK University.

Access to Law/ Diploma and Advance Diploma in Legal Studies Objective:

To provide participants with a working knowledge of the law which will enable them to examine a series of legal situations and comment on them with confidence. To qualify for the Diploma, students must pass six of the subjects on offer. To qualify for the Advance Diploma, student must undertake and pass all nine subjects on offer.

Course Duration example:

One or two years of full-time study or three years of part-time study. For example, students may undertake the Diploma in Legal studies over a 2 year period. In year 1, students undertake 3 subjects, An Outline of Legal History, English Legal System and Constitutional Law. In the final year (Year 2), students undertake the Law of Contract, Law of Tort and Criminal Law.

Entry Requirements:

 

 

Central Birmingham College operates an Open Entry Policy for mature students e.g., those over 19 years of age. It should however be noted that the examinations call for a high standard of written English. Further information about our course requirements may be found here.

 

Examination/ Coursework:

Examinations are set in June and December of each year. Students undertaking any law discipline, are expected to undertake regular coursework assessments. Class test and Mock examinations are also a feature of the legal studies course. These are undertaken randomly and used as a policy guideline for quality control, progress and assessment criteria.

 

Status of Qualification: Diploma/ Advance Diploma/ Access To HE Certificate

Fees are set from £2500.00.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS BASED WITHIN THE UNITED KINGDOM

The Diploma in Law Course is pleased to welcome International/ Overseas students resident within the United Kingdom. Many such students are often faced with high school fees and are not able to enrol onto a course of their choice. However, help is at hand in that the College has decided to reduce the fee for the 2 year Diploma in Legal Studies course to all NEW International/Overseas applicants wanting to undertake a course of study in Law to: 1400.00 (1st Year) and 1550.00 (for year 2). This measure applies to applicants that enrol between *21st July - 14th August 2008.

*Please note that a condition to international/ overseas students reduced fees are that fees must be paid in three instalment
