ESOL/ Skills for Life Programme

Skills for Life Qualifications

These qualifications are available to adult learners in education, the work place, on training schemes, in Adult and Community Learning programmes and in everyday life. They are designed to develop the literacy, numeracy and ICT skills and capabilities that adults who are speakers of languages other than English need to take a full part in at work and in society.

Certificate in ESOL Skills for Life

The certificate in ESOL Skills for Life is designed to enable learners who are speakers of languages other than English to:

• Achieve a level of attainment in English which is appropriate to their needs
• Use language at a level to function at work and in society in general
• Progress to the next level in manageable steps.
• Follow a structured course of study.
• Become better qualified

Structure of the ESOL Course

The Certificates in ESOL Skills for Life course is offered at the following levels:

• Entry Levels: 1, 2 and 3

• Level 1

• Level 2

There are three modes available at each level:

• Speaking and Listening

• Reading

• Writing

Certificate in Adult Basic Skills for life (Literacy, Numeracy and ICT Skills)

The certificate in Adult Basic Skills for Life is designed to enable adult earners to:

• Achieve a level of attainment in English, numeracy and ICT which is appropriate to their needs
• Use language at a level to function at work and in society in general
• Progress to the next level in manageable steps.
• Follow a structured course of study.
• Become better qualified

Adult Basic Skills Literacy

Units: Listening, Speaking, Reading writing

There are different learning levels:

• Entry: Level 1, 2, and 3
• Level 1
• Level 2

Adult Basic Skills in Numeracy

• Entry Level 1, 2, and 3
• Level 1
• Level 2

Adult Basic Skills in ICT (information Communication Technology)

• Entry Level 1, 2, and 3
• Level 1
• Level 2

PROGRESSION

The qualifications will enable candidates to progress either directly to employment or to Foundation Level courses.
