CBCED DYSLEXIA COMMUNITY PROGRAMME PATHWAY INITIATIVE
The Drive to Getting back into Education – Fair Chance-Fair Playing Field
Over the preceding year, the organisation has had a number of entrants to the organisation with learning difficulties in the form of dyslexia. Oftentimes, embarrassment was the reasons why many would not seek help. In one particular case study, 2 members of the same family went through schooling with Dyslexia, with little or no help being given by either the local authority or the school.
As an inclusive organisation, Central Birmingham College Education and Training is introducing the Basic Skills programme designed for dyslexic learners, particularly from the local community who wish to develop the basic skills necessary, to embark onto further and higher education studies or employment.
Aims
The project aims to support dyslexic learners, build their confidence and help them develop the basic skills that they required to function in everyday life.
The objectives are to:
Numbers that attend are usually small, owing to the nature of the learning disability.
WHO WILL THE PROJECT HELP: People with learning disabilities
Outcome: Confidence to move into employment, training and higher education.
Number of learners: The estimated numbers learners for this programme is approximately 15. However, we believe the figure to increase working in partnership with other community partners, career services and jobcentreplus.
