Sociology

The A-Level Sociology is an OCR accredited programme. It is a 1/2-year course consists of Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS) and Advanced GCE (A2) in Sociology.

This programme focuses on contemporary society. It is designed to provide learners with an introduction to sociology that emphasises contemporary social processes and social changes, whilst also fostering an ethos of critical inquiry within candidates. Learners will be encouraged to explore the social world and to reflect on their own social experiences.

Advanced Subsidiary GCE in Sociology

The Advanced Subsidiary GCE is both a ‘stand-alone’ qualification and also the first half of the corresponding Advanced GCE. The AS GCE is made up of two mandatory units, which are externally assessed. The AS programmes focuses focuses on socialisation, culture and identity.

Entry requirements:

The programme is suitable for applicants with no formal prior experience of the subject. Some good English and Numeracy skills and a good level of motivation are essential for a successful completion of the programme.

Progression

The successful completion of this course will lead to the Advanced General Certificate in Sociology. You can use your certificate to apply to any university of your choice for a degree course in sociology or any social science programmes.
